Printing Runs in the Family for Abbotsford Globe Printers owner, Ken Giesbrecht
Printing runs in the family for Ken Giesbrecht, owner of one of Abbotsford's premier print shop Globe Printers. When Ken was 10 years old, he collated print jobs for his dad, Dave, at the first Globe Printers in Saskatoon. He also remembers sweeping and mopping the floors and realizing when you own your own business, you are accountable for everything that goes on in the company. "Growing up, I always thought it was cool to have your own business, and I was fascinated with printing and graphics that I saw my dad and uncle (Don) working with," Giesbrecht shares.
With Ken's dad and uncle running a successful Globe Saskatoon, Ken opened his own Globe Printers in Abbotsford in 1994. Over the years and through countless hours of work and a variety of jobs, Globe Printers has beco me the printing shop with the largest printing press in the Fraser Valley capable of serving a variety of businesses. Clients come to Globe knowing they will receive the highest quality product, phenomenal service, and materials that are environmentally friendly. While Ken enjoys the variety of clients that come through his door as well as the challenge of new projects, he also enjoys the close-knit team of his staff. "I really enjoy the whole business life and interactions and discussions with other people in business," he confides. "I enjoy seeing a happy customer with a product that we printed, hopefully it will help them grow their company. It's a good feeling to be a part of someone else's success. I also enjoy the flexibility of being the boss, knowing that a great staff is taking care of things when I am not around. When you own a business, it actually is on your mind 24 hours/ 7 days a week. I know I am ultimately responsible for every aspect of the company, good and bad. We a re not perfect, but we strive to give the customers a perfect experience when they entrust us with their ideas and needs."
Since 2004, Ken has found rejuvenation while working with a business coach who inspires him to work on simplifying the day-to-day process of Globe while improving the final outcomes. Working on the business instead of in the business has given Ken new perspectives on how to continue to improve his company. Above all, he wants every client to understand the guarantee behind every job that comes from Globe; if they are not satisfied, Globe will work with them until they are.
Ken is married to Sonya, also a business owner. She owns Cozy Homes, a home and decor store in Abbotsford. They have one son, Fisher, who enjoys hockey. When Ken is not busy at Globe, he enjoys spending time fishing and boating at a cabin at Harrison Lake.
